I own an Asus Q550L. I was the only owner having bought it new from Best Buy a few years ago. This is a pretty nice 1000$ laptop. Being a student and having worked hard for the money to buy it, this thing is my pride and joy. My laptop first began experiencing what I called "an unstable charge". It would periodically just stop charging and over the course of a month it continued to get worse until I finally decided to bring my baby in somewhere. Living not too far from this place I took it here, Oakville Tech. A man who introduced himself as the owner took it in and gave me a call within a few days. He explained that the DC Jack needed to be fixed. It would be 80$ for the repair. We agreed to the terms. Within a week he had "it fixed" and I took the laptop home. For a few weeks everything seemed fine, but pretty soon the problem was back and once again it was only charging intermittently. We immediately gave the store a call, spoke to the same man and he said to bring it back. We took it back and he said it would be another 80$ to repair. Again, we agreed to the terms. A few days later we picked it up. By the next morning it was no longer charging. The second fix was also a bust. We called the owner again and again he requested we bring it back to his store. We did, already 160$ into this repair. He explained this time that the entire jack would need to be replaced rather than soldered into place (which he had previously been doing at 80$ a pop), but he assured us this would come free of charge. Because, you know, we had already given him 160$. Lovely, right? Except that when we took it home this time it would no longer charge AT ALL. I took it to another shop and found out, to my ABSOLUTE HORROR, that the man had shorted my motherboard and now the entire thing needed to be replaced. A 350$ repair on top of the 160$ I had already paid at Oakville Tech. I called the owner, and he pretended he had no idea what I was walking about. He pretended not to know who I was. He told me he had to search for my records and to call him the next day. When I did get ahold of him he offered me a 40$ refund on "labor". DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT TO THIS MAN. HE AGREED TO A REPAIR HE OBVIOUSLY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DO. HE CHARGED ME 160$ FOR A BOTCHED SOLDERING JOB THAT FRIED MY MOTHERBOARD. AWFUL.

The owner was honest and gave me a diagnostic on my dead phone without charging me for it. It turned out to be a motherboard issue, and the cost of repair would've been far more than the phone was worth. I had gone to another place first (Techville, on Kerr Street), where they tried to pressure me into leaving the phone with them for repair, without doing the diagnostic first, giving me a low estimate based on a rough guess, and I'm sure I would've been stuck with a huge repair bill after they discovered the actual issue. Go with Oakville Tech.
